More Firm Project Idea... (I think)

I've found myself in conversations with co-workers regarding careers and jobs (coincidentally?).   On the upside I think those conversations inspired me with an idea.  Many teachers have great ideas about jobs and careers in their field.  I think by hearing from teachers and dividing it up between the academic subjects may be a good way to present careers to students.  The idea I came up with was to create a new blog - a career blog.  On that blog I will post video clips (about a minute or so long each) of teachers representing the different academic subjects giving different ideas of "out of the box" type jobs.  Students would then select a subject and research a job in that area.  THEN... they would continue with trying to find out if and how that job exists abroad.
How does that sound?
I just need to find some teacher volunteers to be in videos!

  1. This seems like a good idea because even though HS students realize that there are more possibilities out there other than fireman, policeman, and doctor they still have no idea how many different types of jobs exist. More times than not I hear young adults, right out of college, saying that they landed a job that they didn't even knew existed but, that they just happened to study the right things in college or had the right part time job while going to school. I think that as they explore the many possibilities they should contact people in that field to gain a better understanding of the position. It doesn't necessarily have to be people that are from other countries, it could be someone from the US.

  2. I think that this is a neat and creative idea. I agree with Kathy that it is important for kids to think and see "out of the box" regarding careers. With so much changing, a lot spurred by technology, we do not necessarily know the jobs of the future and it is by being open to new ideas and experiences that these ideas will come to fruition.
